What does a Construction C-Sink look like in practice? 

Robin Werren, PM Global Construction C-Sink, recently visited the hempcrete production site of Cancret in Widnau, Switzerland. The visit offered a first-hand look at how hemp-based building materials are produced and how biogenic carbon storage can be integrated into construction. 

Cancret develops prefabricated wall systems using hempcrete, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of conventional construction materials. Industrial hemp absorbs CO₂ as it grows, storing carbon within its biomass. Once processed into hempcrete and built into walls, this carbon remains stored long-term - and thanks to the wall system design, ready for re-use. 

Robin followed the process from raw hemp through mixing and processing to the finished wall elements, gaining valuable insight into how the Global Construction C-Sink Standard translates into real-world application. 

For Carbon Standards, visits like this matter: strong science-based Standards provide the framework for credible climate action, but it is projects like Cancret’s that turn those requirements into tangible impact.
